About the Author Jonathan Swift was born in 1667 in Ireland. He was a famous writer, poet, and clergyman. He is best known for writing Gulliver's Travels , a story about the exciting adventures of Lemuel Gulliver. His stories often used imagination and humour to teach important lessons. Jonathan Swift is considered one of the greatest writers in English literature. He died in 1745. Dr. Lemuel Gulliver, a doctor from London, joined a ship to travel and explore new places. During the voyage, a terrible storm caused the ship to sink. Gulliver swam to an island and fell asleep on the beach. When he woke up, he found himself tied down by tiny people called the Lilliputians.
