STEP UP STEP IN

A transition person is someone who breaks negative patterns and creates a better path for themselves and others.

A transition person is someone who stops a bad habit or behavior and starts a better one that helps everyone.

Such people try to bring positive changes in the society.

Story: The Boy and Starfishes

Transition persons make a conscious decision to end harmful habits, mindsets, or traditions—whether in a family, workplace, or community—and replace them with positive, proactive actions.

Key Traits of a Transition Person:

  • Proactive: They don’t wait for change—they initiate it.

  • Step Up: They take responsibility instead of blaming others.

  • Step In: They intervene or get invloved when they see something wrong or unhelpful, helping guide others in a better direction.

  • Courageous: They may be the first in their family or group to say, “This stops with me.”

  • Value-driven: They live by principles rather than reacting to emotions or circumstances.

Example 1: Student Breaking a Family Pattern

Situation: A student comes from a family where no one has completed higher education.

Transition Action: The student decides to study seriously, asks teachers for help, and becomes the first in the family to pass Grade 12.

✅ This student is a transition person because they broke the cycle of dropping out early and set a new example for younger siblings.

🔹 Example 2: Class Monitor Handling Bullying

Situation: A few students tease a new classmate for their accent or appearance.
Transition Action: The class monitor steps in, says it’s not right, and talks to the teacher and classmates. They create an environment of respect.
✅ This monitor is a transition person because they stood against a negative habit and replaced it with kindness and acceptance.

🔹 Example 3: Parent Limiting Screen Time at Home

Situation: Everyone in the house spends hours on mobile phones and TV, including children.
Transition Action: A parent introduces “no screen during dinner” and starts family reading time every night.
✅ This parent is a transition person by creating a healthier routine and better bonding at home.
