  • Write the geographical features of Himalayan Mountains.

The Himalayan Mountains are the highest mountain range in the world, stretching across northern India and forming a natural barrier between India and its neighboring countries. They have three parallel ranges:

The Great Himalayas (Himadri) – The highest range, with peaks like Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. These peaks remain snow-covered throughout the year.

The Middle Himalayas/ lesser or lower Himalayas or Himachal – Includes popular hill stations like Shimla and Mussoorie and has dense forests and fertile valleys.

The Outer Himalayas (Shiwalik) – The lowest range, with foothills and valleys, suitable for agriculture and settlements.

The Himalayas are important for climate, rivers, biodiversity, and protection.

The Himalayas are important for climate, rivers, biodiversity, and protection. They block cold winds from Central Asia, keeping northern India warmer in winter. They also cause heavy rainfall by trapping the monsoon winds. The rivers originating from the Himalayan glaciers, like the Ganga, Yamuna, and Brahmaputra, provide water for agriculture and drinking. The dense forests are home to diverse wildlife, including snow leopards and red pandas.
