OPEN MINDEDNESS
Once upon a time, there were six blind men who lived in a village. One day, the villagers told them,
"Hey, there is an elephant in the village today!"
The six men had never seen or touched an elephant before. Curious to find out what an elephant was like, they decided to go and touch it. Each one touched a different part of the elephant, trying to understand it.
- The first man touched the side of the elephant. He exclaimed, "Ah! An elephant is like a big wall."
- The second man touched the tusk. "No, no! It’s like a sharp spear!" he said.
- The third man felt the trunk and said, "An elephant is like a snake."
- The fourth man held the leg and said, "It is clear! The elephant is like a tree."
- The fifth man touched the ear and said, "You are all wrong! It is like a fan."
- The sixth man touched the tail and laughed. "An elephant is nothing but a rope!"
The six men began arguing with each other, each convinced that their understanding of the elephant was the right one.
"You're wrong!" shouted one.
"No, I'm right!" said another.
Just then, a wise man passing by saw them arguing. He smiled and said,
"You are all correct in your own way, but each of you touched only a part of the elephant. If you put all the pieces together, you will understand what the elephant truly is."
